How it all started.

Dwelling Place started as a simple desire to do better by caregivers in the foster, adoptive and kinship community. And through God orchestrated introductions, conversations and willing hearts, we are launching our passion project into the Leander, Texas community and hopefully beyond! When Vance and Stephanie Acker became part of the foster and adoptive community in 2017, it was apparent the Lord had BIG PLANS for their involvement.

What they assumed would be a short and sweet story of God creating their little family through years of unsuccessful fertility treatments and eventually the foster and adoptive community, has evolved into a never ending love story. After the adoption of their first son, Nickolas, in 2020, the flame was lit. Not only were they made aware of how crucial the call is to love the orphans, but they also learned how great the need is. During their first placement, it was obvious that a reliable and resourceful support system was critical to the success of their ability to care for the children placed in their home. There were unexpected tangible needs that arose, like age and gender appropriate clothes, supplies and toys. There was a constant need for educational support to enable them to parent and empower children from hard places. And finally, the need to have the time and space to ensure they were mentally, physically and spiritually well.

The awareness that now all caregiver families had access to these resources and help was sobering and eye-opening. As they continued to become more immersed and connected with serving the families, and essentially the kids, in this community, the greater their desire to do more grew! And this is where our story stands today. Dwelling Place is a culmination of a fierce calling to serve and an unwavering belief that all things are made possible through Christ.
